A conversation with UK-based business communicator Neville Hobson in San Francisco. Recorded on Sunday, June 7, 2009

Neville and I were speaking from the FIR Dinner, a gathering of listeners of the For Immediate Release podcast that Neville co-hosts with Shel Holtz each week.

Earlier in the evening, Neville had been presented with the IABC Chairman’s Award at the opening of the IABC 2009 World Conference.

Headed to San Francisco

By Bryan Person

On Sunday afternoon I arrive in San Francisco for the start of the IABC 2009 World Conference.

This is an event I’ve been looking forward to for some time, in part because I’ll be connecting with several business communicators I’ve been following online for years but haven’t yet met face-to-face. Among them are Lee Hopkins and Allan Jenkins, the Grumpy Old Men Road Trip duo who are storming down the West Coast from Seattle just in time to join the conference when it kicks off tomorrow night. (I talked about Allan and Lee’s adventures in a podcast earlier this week. )

Expect at least a few Daily Boo podcasts from IABC next week.

Outta the Gate logol

I also plan to contribute to Linda Johannesson’s Outta the Gate project.

Linda originally hails from Canada but now makes her home in Sydney. She’s travelled across the Pacific for IABC 2009 and will be producing plenty of interesting content throughout the conference.

More from San Francisco!

For many traditional journalists, it’s still a struggle to stay involved with a story beyond its initial publication.

Also mentioned in today’s show:

* “Bribing” reporters to respond to reader comments online
* A “soliloquy” from Jen Zingsheim on the Media Bullseye Radio Roundtable
* I’m headed to the IABC 2009 World Conference in San Francisco, and I’ll be recording several shows from there next week.

Oops!

By Bryan Person

The Daily Boo is made each day with AudioBoo, a free iPhone application that comes with a 5-minute recording limit. That time constraint is a good thing—usually.

For today’s conversation with Tim Walker, I could have used a couple of extra seconds. If you listen through to the show’s end, you’ll hear my voice cut out at the very end, just before I could announce the URL for this DailyBoo.com website.

Fortunately, none of Tim’s brilliant insight was lost, so the impact was minimal.

Still, I don’t intend to make a habit of running out of time, and I’ll get it right again. Starting tomorrow.
